Drivers Licence:
Renter and additional Drivers must be in possession of a current full valid driving licence free from endorsement held for a minimum of 12 months from their country of residence and must produce same at commencement of rental.
International Driving Licence required for licences in non-roman alphabet. International licence only valid when presented with domestic licence.
FUEL:
The Avis fleet is mainly unleaded petrol however some cars may be diesel . Both fuels are available at all petrol stations in Ireland . A Prepaid Fuel Option is available at our desk. Ask for further details when picking up your car.
SPECIAL EQUIPMENT:
Child safety seat and booster seats are available on request - subject to availability. A fee will apply for use of these seats.
Roof racks are not available in Ireland for hire.
CROSS BORDER RENTALS:
Vehicles may be driven in Northern Ireland but may not be taken outside Ireland.Pick Up and Drop Off Fees will apply.There are travel restrictions into other countries from Ireland.
SURCHARGE/CITY SUPPLEMENT:
An Airport Surcharge of €30 applies to all airport locations.
A City Supplement of €30 applies to Dublin Downtown Office only.

Accident and breakdown
What if I have an accident?
If you are involved in an accident, you should do the following:
* Call the Avis Roadside Assistance number (1890 45 55 65) and immediately contact the police in case of third party liability and the emergency services in case anyone is injured
* Do not leave the vehicle without making sure it is safe.
* Write down names and addresses of all people involved and any witnesses never admit liability. Fill in the accident form included in your rental papers (Under no circumstances should you have the car repaired without prior and formal approval of Avis)
What if I break down or need help on the road?
Please check with the staff at the rental location to confirm what breakdown or accident assistance is available.

Are there any additional charges apart from the basic rental price?
Additional charges to your basic rental rate may include: Young Driver surcharge, Premium Location/Airport/Railway Service Charge, charges for an additional driver, or extra services such as additional equipment, after hour service, prepaid fuel service.
Is it possible for a visually impaired person to make a rental?
Visually impaired renters may rent a vehicle by using a designated driver (impaired renter's credit card to be used and designated driver's licence needs to be valid).
Is VAT included int the rental price?
Yes. VAT is normally included in the rental price.
What is the minimum rental period?
The minimum rental period is 24 hours.
How can I find a location using the flight search?
To search for a rental location using your flight number on the Avis website, you should insert your flight code (usually made up of a two letter code know as designator number), followed by flight number. Example: BA2486.
Why is my flight number not being recognised?
To ensure your flight number is recognised, we suggest that you insert all the details provided on your flight booking confirmation.Please include the designator code (the two letter code) followed by your flight number.Some airlines do not always provide both.For example when making a booking with Easyjet or Ryanair you will only receive the flight number.In this case, Easyjet flights should include the two letter code U2 before the flight number and Ryanair flights should include the two letter code FR.
Can I cancel my booking free of charge?
If you cancel your booking a cancellation fee of €25 (€50 for vehicles from the Avis Prestige Fleet) will apply by way of compensation to AFC.
If you fail to pick up your vehicle within 24 hours from the reservation date and time shown in your booking an amount by way of compensation will be due to AFC:
a) for bookings where the face value of the voucher is below €95 no refund will be made.
b) for bookings where the face value of the voucher is above €95 (€200 for vehicles from the Avis Prestige Fleet), AFC will refund any amount in excess of €95 (or €200 for Avis Prestige Fleet)
How can I book rental for a month or more?
On our website the maximum allowed for a rental is up to 27 consecutives days. Click here for full information on long rental periods of 1 month or more.
How long is a car rental voucher valid for?
Once a voucher has been issued, its validity is only related to the stated at the time of booking. In case you have to postpone you rental,your voucher can be used within 28 days before it becomes invalid. It is very much advisable to check with the Avis rental office where you are intended to pick up the car to get more details.For more info you can also contact our Customer Service before the rental dates.
Once I have made a booking, can I change the dates of my rental period?
Changes prior to hiring your car:
You can modify your booking details prior to the rental date, including the length of the rental.
Changes when you have already hired your car:
If you have already hired your car please get in touch with the rental station where you collected your car, their contact details are displayed on your Rental Agreement. Is insurance included in the rate quoted?
Your rental quote will normally include basic cover (Third Party Cover, Vehicle Damage Cover (UK) Collision Damage Insurance (Ireland (Vehicle Theft Cover). What does 'Vehicle Registration Fee' mean?
In most countries, a 'registration fee' or 'vehicle registration fee' is levied. This fee is revealed separately and covers costs related to vehicle registration, motorway tolls (Vignette), etc. Depending on the country, the fee is levied per rental day or as a fixed amount per rental. This fee is normally included in the quote.

What type of driving licence is required in Ireland and Overseas?
To rent an Avis car, you will need a full driving licence that covers the vehicle rented by you. It will need to be held for at least one year. Remember to have your original driving licence with you in both parts if it's a new style UK licence.If your licence is in non-roman alphabet (e.g. Japanese), you will need in addition an International driving licence.If you rent abroad: You will need the original licence and an international licence in Australia but not in the USA, Canada, South Africa and most European countries.
Please note that some countries in Asia and Africa (e.g. China, India), Avis Chauffeur Drive is required as you may not be allowed to drive the vehicle yourself.
Can I rent a car even if I have points (endorsements) on my driving licence?
If you have endorsements on the licence please contact us on 1890 40 50 60 before making your booking.
Can I have an additional driver?
The rental vehicle is normally only insured for the person who makes the rental. If others plan to drive the car, they must be added to the Rental Agreement when the car is collected. Additional drivers are subject to the same conditions regarding age, credit card and driving licence as the renter. There will be a charge for each additional driver.
What is the Young Driver Surcharge?
In most of the countries an extra fee will be charged for drivers under 25 years of age . Driver age requirements and surcharge prices are shown in the online booking process when viewing a vehicle model (Product Page) at your chosen location.
Are Avis vehicles supplied with a full tank of fuel?

What is the minimum age for renting an Avis vehicle?

What about Congestion Charge in London?
The London Congestion Charge is a surcharge levied against all vehicles entering central London between 07:00hrs and 18:00hrs, Monday to Friday (no charge is made during weekends or on public holidays). If you collect your rental car from Avis locations within the congestion zone during charging hours (Mayfair and Waterloo) Avis will purchase the permit for the first calendar day (will be added to the total price).
For additional days, if you are driving within the zone when the charge is in force, you will be liable to pay. Permits may be purchased via authorised retail outlets, by post, the Internet or by phone (0845 900 1234). An £8 permit can be purchased any time up until 22:00hrs on the day rising to £10 if purchased after 22:00hrs.
Currently the zone covers the following areas: Bayswater, Notting Hill, North and South Kensington, Knightsbridge, Chelsea, Brompton, Belgravia, Pimlico, St. James's, Waterloo, Borough, City of London, Clerkenwell, Finsbury, Holborn, Bloomsbury, Soho. Mayfair and parts of Marylebone. There is a charge for the use of vehicles on roads within the charging zone, but not for using roads round the perimeter itself.
Failure to purchase a permit will result in the customer of a vehicle being issued with a penalty notice to the value of £100, this would be discounted to £50 if paid within 14 days. If Avis receives a penalty notice, Avis will pay on behalf of the customer and then send an invoice to the customer with the addition of an administration fee.
